Y-405 - "The Archival Assistants"

A blurry figure holding a set of files paperclipped together.

Summary

Category: Y

Current Attitude: Amicable

Containment Procedure:

  • Despite being sapient and professing to be employees of the Foundation, Y-405 are not employees of the Foundation. Do not treat them as such.
  • Do not forcibly separate Y-405 from Y-83 - "The Filing Cabinet" by more than 66.6m. If Y-405 strays further of their own volition, do not impede their ability to return.
  • If Y-405 becomes hostile, use [NON-LETHAL] means to subdue them.

Description:

  • Y-405 is a category assigned to multiple humanoid forms that have emerged from Y-83 - "The Filing Cabinet", created from the bodies of those who enter it.
  • They profess personalities and names but they are not consistent with any previous name the body has identified with.
  • Each individual is different, but all possess aptitude with and understanding of Y-83 - "The Filing Cabinet".
  • Though aspects of Y-405 need to eat and appear to need to sleep, they are known to disappear for long periods of time.

History

Sheila

See Y-83 for additional details on Sheila's emergence.

The aspect of Y-405 that refers to itself as “Sheila” is the oldest (known) instance of Y-405. If any older instance exists it was created prior to Foundation Records of Y-83 - "The Filing Cabinet".

“Sheila” is a humanoid who exhibits behaviours stereotypical of a “caring grandparent” figure in modern fiction: she exhibits parental protection over Y-83 and the other instances of Y-405, professes to enjoy crafting, and carries an air described by Researchers as “doting”. However, when engaged on topics of interest (namely, Y-83 and its contents), “Sheila” becomes incredibly precise and thorough in her movements and behaviour, leading some researchers to question whether Sheila's “doting grandparent” behaviour is an affectation or not.

Cal

“Cal” is a more recent manifestation of Y-405, though the exact emergence date is unclear as Cal's emergence was not documented. Cal is a more reserved manifestation of Y-405, easily startled by loud noises and with a general preference for conversations involving at most 4 people.

Cal is known to be very exacting about the use of Y-405 and ensuring that the order of requests is preserved. Cal also maintains a notebook in which they note down all requests made to Y-405. Exactly what they do with this information is unclear and the notebook has not been seen to become full despite being observed to be in use for a sufficiently long period of time to fill it.

Elijah

[CLASSIFIED]. If Elijah manifests without the supervision of Sheila or Cal, inform the Department of Extradimensional Relations immediately.

Advice for Researchers

  • Establishing a relationship with Y-405 is essential for effective use of Y-83.
  • Y-405 can and will lodge complaints about behaviour to Management.
  • Y-405 is not under the employ of the Foundation and not subject to Management Review: it is an Anomaly and issues with it are a matter for Containment and Extradimensional Relations not Management.
