Y-103 - "The Waiting Room"

Black and white icon of a person in a seat waiting for a clock.

Summary

Category: Y

Current Attitude: Amicable

Containment Procedure:

  • When Y-103 manifests, only one person may enter.
  • That person must exit the Y-103 when instructed to leave (usually after three minutes since entering Y-103).
  • Do not damage anything within Y-103.
  • Do not stay within Y-103 after being instructed to leave.

Description:

  • Y-103 is an extradimensional space usually measuring internally as 3m x 3m with some margin of error.
  • Externally, Y-103 takes up the exact dimensions of its entrance doorway.
  • It takes the appearance of a small modern waiting room, described by most who enter it as “a Dentist's waiting room”.
  • Between manifestations, the details of Y-103 have been noted to change, but there is usually:
    • Seating
    • A table with magazines
    • A plant
    • A lamp
  • There usually is only one door in and out of the room.
  • No sentient lifeforms manifest within Y-103, but a voice will generally instruct users to leave. Whether this voice is consistent between visitors is unknown as it cannot be recorded.

The 1912 Incident

During a routine review of artefacts in storage, Y-103 was revisited by the Containment Department whereupon [NAME REDACTED] became fixated on the literature provided. Though [PRONOUN REDACTED] only spent two minutes within Y-103, [PRONOUN REDACTED] became convinced that Y-103 was attempting to convey an impending disaster, specifically to [PRONOUN REDACTED]self.

Despite lack of evidence, [PRONOUN REDACTED] cancelled all of their planned travel for the next year, including to [LOCATION REDACTED] and [LOCATION REDACTED] aboard [TRANSPORT NAME REDACTED]. When [INCIDENT REDACTED], this confirmed [NAME REDACTED]'s conviction that Y-103 had provided prognostication and [PRONOUN REDACTED] proceeded to [PROCEDURES REDACTED].

However, due to Y-103's blatant failure to provide any warning about [INCIDENT REDACTED], [INCIDENT REDACTED], [INCIDENT REDACTED], [INCIDENT REDACTED], [INCIDENT REDACTED], [INCIDENT REDACTED], or [INCIDENT REDACTED], this belief was not corroborated and, despite [NAME REDACTED]'s protestations, use of Y-103 was restricted only to Dr Cross in [DATE REDACTED].

Resurgence

In [DATE REDACTED], use of Y-103 was posited due to a number of Anomalous Incidents involving similarly dubious prognostication. The Experimentation Department sent a series of Investigators into Y-103 and more thoroughly began to cross reference their findings. With a more “modern” approach to the experiences of those within Y-103, the Department for Paranormal Prediction became considerably more interested as when taken as metaphorical guidance rather than direct instruction the room's guidance was considered a lot more accurate.

This approach, of course, had its detractors. Many claimed, including [NAME REDACTED] that the room was simply providing random stimuli and visitors were using their own biases to infer signs or portents much as they would for an astrological reading or fortune telling, and this has remained broadly the stance of the Foundation. This hasn't stopped the Extradimensional Relations Department from introducing a restricted Authorisation – Intercession – for interacting with Y-103, and a series of Investigations that succeeded under perceived guidance of Y-103 (the “gum under the chair code” being a particularly popular story) have done little to dissuade “believers”.

Advice for "Intercessors"

  • Avoid taking indications from Y-103 literally – it is highly unlikely to provide direct information.
  • Inspect the details: Y-103 is known to provide information very subtly.
  • Corroborate what you have seen with other Intercessors to determine discrepancies that could be of note.
  • DO NOT OVERSTAY YOUR WELCOME.
