Event 1 Deadlines

UPDATE 27th February 2025: We have had more applications to our booking form than there are Player tickets available. Please be advised that per our Booking Policy, places cannot be reserved until we have received a deposit (£20). You can find payment details and more information on the Unlikely Stories website.

Getting There

Birch Hall is correctly found by most SatNavs. Be aware that the roads are narrow and that mobile signal is patchy the closer you get to the site. Google Maps provides sensible directions.

Upon getting closer to the site, follow the signage for Birch Hall Scouts and you will find the location easily enough.

We would request all attendees find parking toward the entrance to the site, but we will advise upon this on arrival.

Accommodation

By default, attendees at Event 1 will be able to be sleep indoors in one of the bunkhouses. These rooms are shared and we will reserve certain rooms for non-male sleeping and accessible sleeping. Please let us know if you would require this on your booking form or by emailing contact@unlikelystories.co.uk. All rooms are Out Of Character spaces.

Camping is permitted but please let us know if you will be camping.

Bunks are fitted with mattresses and no bedding so you will need to bring your own.

Accessibility

The Site for Event 1 is Birch Hall. Both the Langdale and Troutsdale Lodges which are used for accommodation have step-free access and both contain an accessible toilet and shower. Both buildings have step-free access.

We will never use an area without step-free access as an area Players are required to reach.

Some areas of the site outside of the main play area are rougher terrain and may not be suitable for those with limited mobility. We will never use one of these areas for our non-combat Encounters but may use them for combat Encounters. When this is the case we will always make sure this is notified in advance. If you want to go on one of these Excursions but have limited mobility please let a Ref know and we will make adaptations to our plan including relocating the Encounter.

See Event Accessibility for details on our general Accessibility commitments.

Ticks

Our site for Event 1 is known to be somewhere where ticks live. Therefore, we advise all attendees to remain vigilant for Ticks and take sensible precautions. Given the nature of the Event, this advice is given both In and Out of Character: there is no reason for a Character to not be dressing appropriately for the environment they're in!

If you find a tick, do not attempt to remove it by hand. Instead, immediately go to Ops where Tick Removal Tools will be available to remove it safely and clean the area thoroughly. Afterwards, continue to monitor the bite for rashes including the tell-tale “bullseye” rash that is a sign of Lyme disease: if any of these appear, immediately contact your GP.

Many LARPs have been run at this site before without incident and we have no reason to believe that if everyone follows the sensible precautions we will be any different.

Catering

Catering is provided as an additional opt-in cost by purchasing a Meal Ticket. We will update this information when we have confirmed a Caterer, but expect meal tickets to be in the region of £30-40 per head.

Self-catering facilities are also available and will be kept as an Out Of Character space. Please note that due to the site's location it is not likely to be feasible to order food or make quick trips to nearby shops, so plan accordingly.
